Fuchse Berlin Looking to Bounce Back
Fuchse Berlin were one of the most dominant teams in the Champions League first phase, topping Group A with an impressive record of eleven victories and three defeats.
They were tagged warm favorites in last week’s quarterfinal opening tie against Veszprem, had a great first half with a 20-17 lead at the break, but their offense struggled later on and they ultimately lost 35-34. Mathias Gidsel carried the team with 13 goals from 17 attempts, but it wasn’t enough to avoid defeat.
Fuchse Berlin have been in strong form domestically, riding a five-game winning streak across competitions. Their most recent win came against Gummersbach 28-26 at home in late April.
Veszprem Holding Narrow Advantage
Hugo Descat played a key role in last week’s 35-34 victory, scoring eight goals from nine attempts, while Ivan Martinovic also contributed heavily with eight goals from 12 shots.
Unlike their opponents, Veszprem had to go through the Round of 16, beating PSG 32-24 at home before securing qualification with a 35-35 draw in France.
They also extended their winning streak in the Hungarian league to 24 games with a 41-34 victory against Komloi last weekend.
