Celta Vigo are the biggest draw specialists in Spain this season, more than half of their games ending without a winner. Juventus are not convincing on the road, so I am backing these two sides to share the spoils on Thursday.

Key Stats

  • Celta Vigo have drawn 5 of their last 8 matches (La Liga).
  • Juventus are winless in their last 2 away matches.
  • Juventus have seen BTTS in their last 2 away matches.

First H2H Meeting in 26 Years

These two sides battled in the UEFA Cup playoffs in 2000, Celta Vigo advancing with a 4-1 win on aggregate.

Celta Got Stunned in the First Round

Celta Vigo were tagged favorites in their UEFA Europa League opening match against Omonia but suffered a 1-0 loss in Nicosia, conceding just before stoppage time while Carl Starfelt missed a big chance to score before that.

Their La Liga form has improved after this defeat though, demolishing Racing Santander 5-0 at home where they had 2.14-0.76 xG and 9-5 shots on target.

Last weekend, the Sky Blues locked horns against Elche on the road where they invested a lot in defending and got away with a goalless draw. Celta didn’t register a single shot on target while allowing just two.

Old Lady Not Doing Great on the Road

Juventus’ best performance this season across competitions was seen in the UEL opener, crushing NEC Nijmegen 5-0 in Torino, posting 4.20-0.82 xG. Randal Kolo Muani was named man of the match with one goal and one assist.

Luciano Spalletti’s side is not doing that great on the domestic front though, securing just three victories in six Serie A appearances and sit in 6th place.

Games on the road have been quite problematic for the Old Lady so far, registering a 1-0 win at Frosinone, losing to Sassuolo 3-2, while last weekend’s trip to Cagliari ended in a 1-1 draw.

Team News & Predicted Lineups

Celta Vigo (3-4-3) Ionut Radu; Fernando Caceres, Unai Lago, Marcos Alonso; Oscar Rueda, Aleix Febas, Ilaix Moriba, Javi Galan; Pablo Duran, Ferran Jutgla, Hugo Alvarez

Celta Vigo have to manage squad absences across their defensive and attacking options, as Carl Starfelt, Miguel Roman, and long-term casualty Jones El-Abdellaoui remain ruled out. However, veteran forward Iago Aspas returned to fitness and will start on bench.

Juventus (4-2-3-1) Guglielmo Vicario; Zeki Celik, Federico Gatti, Lloyd Kelly, Andrea Cambiaso; Douglas Luiz, Pape Matar Sarr; Kerim Alajbegovic, Weston McKennie, Nicolas Gonzalez; Randal Kolo Muani

The Italian side is missing Manuel Locatelli, Kenan Yildiz, Khephren Thuram, Jeremie Boga, Jeff Ekhator, and Kamil Grabara due to injuries.

Verdict

Five of Celta’s eight league games this season ended without a winner, while they were just a couple of minutes away from sharing the spoils with Omonia in the opening round too. Juventus can’t be trusted on the road, so I am predicting a stalemate in Spain.
