Sweden are looking to boost their spirits after a poor performance against Norway. This is their last friendly before the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, so I will back them to beat Greece, who may already have one eye on their summer break.

Key Stats

  • Sweden have won 2 of their last 3 matches.
  • Sweden beat Greece 2-0 in their last h2h.
  • Greece have lost 4 of their last 7 matches.

H2H Stats are Tied

This is going to be the 10th time these two sides lock horns, both Greece and Sweden claiming three victories each with three draws.

Final Test for the Swedes Before WC

Sweden had disastrous results in the World Cup 2026 qualifiers, collecting just two points in six matches in Group B to finish last behind Switzerland, Kosovo and Slovenia, scoring only four goals.

Thanks to their Nations League accomplishments, they were granted a spot in the playoffs. In the semifinals, the Swedes were heavily carried by Viktor Gyokeres who scored a hat-trick against Ukraine, a game they won 3-1.

In the playoff finals, Sweden locked horns against Poland at home and celebrated a 3-2 victory, Gyokeres being the hero once again scoring the winning goal just before stoppage time.

Their first preparation match for the WC didn’t go well, getting beaten easily by Norway 3-1 a couple of days ago in Oslo, Alexander Isak finding a late consolation goal.

Greece Winless in 2026

Greece underperformed in the World Cup 2026 qualifiers, claiming just two victories in six matches in Group C to finish third behind Scotland and Denmark.

Their form and results were also poor in recent friendly matches in late March, starting with a 1-0 home defeat against Paraguay where Hellas created just one goal opportunity.

In their most recent appearance, Ivan Jovanovic’s side locked horns against Hungary in Budapest and this clash ended in a goalless draw. They had 0.47-0.90 expected goals and 10-12 shots here.

Team News & Predicted Lineups

Sweden (3-5-2) Kristoffer Nordfeldt; Gustaf Lagerbielke, Isak Hien, Victor Lindelof; Herman Johansson, Lucas Bergvall, Mattias Svanberg, Jesper Karlstrom, Daniel Svensson; Alexander Isak, Gustaf Nilsson

The hosts have to manage without Viktor Gyokeres starting following his recent involvement in the UCL finals with Arsenal, though Alexander Isak remains fully ready to lead the frontline.

Greece (4-2-3-1) Konstantinos Tzolakis; Georgios Vagiannidis, Panagiotis Retsos, Konstantinos Koulierakis, Kostas Tsimikas; Nectarios Triantis, Dimitrios Kourbelis; Giorgos Masouras, Christos Mouzakitis, Christos Tzolis; Vangelis Pavlidis

Greece will be without their captain Tasos Bakasetas who is ruled out due to an injury. Youngster Sotiris Kontouris could make his debut.
