Rangers vs Motherwell Predictions
Rangers return to Ibrox on Saturday looking for a third successive league victory against an unbeaten Motherwell side.
The Steelmen have maintained their impressive form from last season, and given their recent record at Ibrox, should be confident of picking up a positive result.
BTTS looks like a solid choice, while I also have a stake on the visitors in the double chance market.
Steelmen Can Test Gers Resolve
- Rangers have seen BTTS in 12 of their last 13 matches (Premiership)
- Rangers failed to win 6 of their last 9 matches (Premiership)
- Rangers have seen BTTS in 8 of their last 9 matches against Motherwell
- Motherwell are unbeaten in 5 of their last 6 matches against Rangers
- Motherwell have seen BTTS in 3 of their last 4 matches
- Motherwell scored 1+ goals in 12 of their last 14 matches
Motherwell Improve H2H Record
Rangers and Motherwell have met on 21 occasions since 2020. Rangers won 12 of those matches while Motherwell claimed three victories. Six matches finished level.
Recent meetings have been competitive, with the Gers winning just one of six encounters since December 2024.
Rangers Make it Back-to-Back Wins
Rangers come into Saturday’s Premiership contest after a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Falkirk on Wednesday.
Lawrence Shankland scored twice for the Gers, opening the scoring in the eighth minute before striking the winner with just 12 minutes to play in the second period.
A Kosta Nedeljkovic own goal had brought Falkirk level shortly before half-time.
Perhaps fortunate to claim all three points, the Gers again lacked fluidity in another underwhelming display. Derek McInnes’s men managed only 52% possession but outshot the Bairns 16–12.
Wednesday’s victory came on the back of last Sunday’s vital 1-0 success at Aberdeen, with Shankland again scoring the decisive goal from the penalty spot.
Back-to-back victories have lifted spirits after a dismal start to the season for the Glasgow giants. Rangers failed to win any of their first four matches, with back-to-back Europa League and Conference League qualification exits representing the nadir of McInnes’s early tenure.
Clean sheets have been frustratingly elusive for the Gers. The hosts conceded in all but one of their last 13 competitive matches. Over a longer period, they have failed to keep a clean sheet in 16 of their last 18 Premiership fixtures.
Motherwell Maintain Unbeaten Start
Motherwell make the trip to Glasgow after cruising to an impressive 3-0 victory against Dundee United on Wednesday.
Emmanuel Agyei's early dismissal proved costly as the home side ran out easy winners in Lanarkshire.
Seb Palmer-Houlden opened the scoring in the first half before Alex Lowry and deadline-day signing Dylan Levitt struck in quick succession after the interval.
The Well were good value for their dominant win at Fir Park. The hosts controlled possession with 72% of the ball, while final xG totals of 2.15 and 0.19 reflected their superiority.
Alfred Johansson’s side have now collected two wins and two draws from their opening four league fixtures.
Motherwell began the season with a 2-1 victory at Hibernian before playing out a goalless draw against Falkirk. A dramatic 3-3 share of the spoils at St Mirren followed before Wednesday’s comfortable home success.
Strong on their travels, the Lanarkshire side lost only six of 21 away Premiership fixtures since the start of last season.
Their recent record at this venue should provide further encouragement. Motherwell have won three of their previous four Premiership visits to Ibrox, including last season’s 3-2 victory.
Rangers vs Motherwell Team News
Rangers: (4-2-3-1) Ivor Pandur; Kosta Nedeljkovic, Emmanuel Fernandez, Olwethu Makhanya, James Penrice; Nico Raskin, Cammy Devlin; Findlay Curtis, Minsu Kim, Djeidi Gassama; Lawrence Shankland
Rangers have no fresh injury issues but remain unable to call on Youssef Chermiti and Tuur Rommens.
Gers boss McInnes will also be absent from the touchline on Saturday as he serves the second match of his SFA suspension.
Club captain Shankland is certain to continue in attack after scoring three goals in his last two appearances.
Kevin Kelsy and Badredine Bouanani could feature after both completed deadline-day transfers from Portland Timbers and Stuttgart respectively.
McInnes was pleased with Rangers’ response after Falkirk had threatened to turn the game around in Wednesday's contest.
"Pleased with the win, pleased with certain aspects of it. Our start was good - a brilliant goal from Lawrence - and we passed up one or two other opportunities.
"The pitch was difficult - very greasy and slippy. We invited unnecessary pressure on ourselves, no more than the equaliser. I thought Falkirk were the better team for a 15-minute period in the second half and we were fortunate not to concede.
"The characteristics and strength of the team to bounce back and get the win was brilliant, a lovely finish again from Lawrence."
Motherwell: (4-2-2-2) Alex Paulsen; Tom Sparrow, Jamie Knight-Lebel, Martin Moormann, Emmanuel Longelo; Joe Hodge, Lukas Fadinger; Alex Lowry, Tawanda Maswanhise; Jardell Kanga, Seb Palmer-Houlden
Motherwell boss Johansson is likely to retain much of the side that started Wednesday’s emphatic victory against Dundee United.
The visitors have three confirmed injury absentees. Callum Hendry and Paul McGinn are sidelined with knee injuries, while Jordan McGhee remains unavailable due to a hamstring problem.
Dylan Levitt made a goalscoring appearance on his debut against the Terrors and is pushing for a first start.
Johansson praised his players’ response and focus after they made the most of their numerical advantage to secure victory.
"It was a good performance today. We felt last week how it is to play with a red card, and [tonight] the opponent had to do it, and I felt we dealt really well with that scenario, and I'm proud of my players.
"We had huge chances in the first half to make it 2-0 early. It would have changed how the game was, and when they have one dangerous counterattack, it could be 1-1.
"We kept the focus today, and that's something we felt we didn't do on Sunday, and that's why I'm super proud and happy with my players at how they reacted to that.”
