Qingdao West Coast Remain Tough to Beat
Qingdao West Coast come into Sunday’s CSL contest after edging to a CFA Cup victory against Shanxi Chongde Ronghai last weekend. After a 1-1 draw in 90 minutes, Zheng Zhi’s side secured their place in the next phase with a 5-4 penalty shootout victory.
The hosts now face their first set Super League fixture since a 2-2 draw against Shanghai Shenhua nearly four weeks ago. Despite dominating the xG totals (2.2 to 0.57), West Coast were forced to settle for a point.
A tough side to beat, Qingdao are now unbeaten in their last 12 matches. Yet remarkably, West Coast secured just two wins in that period, with ten games finishing level.
The hosts have enjoyed a solid first half of the campaign and remain in the top half of the division. Qingdao sit sixth after 15 matches, with only three defeats recorded since the start of the season.
An inability to keep clean sheets remains the biggest flaw in the West Coast makeup. BTTS has landed in 11 of their last 13 matches, including each of their nine most recent fixtures.
Zhejiang in Solid Form
Zhejiang make the trip to Qingdao looking to respond after a frustrating CFA Cup exit against League One opponents Shaanxi Union last weekend. Raul Caneda’s side were held to a 1-1 draw before eventually losing 5-4 on penalties.
Before that disappointment, Zhejiang claimed an impressive 2-0 league win at Henan in their last CSL fixture at the end of May. Goals from Alexandru Mitrita and Tao Qianglong secured a fine away victory.
A strong run of form has helped the away side climb the CSL table in recent weeks. Caneda’s men won four and lost just one of their last seven Super League encounters, while they are unbeaten in their last three away fixtures.
Zhejiang now sit seventh in the division, one point behind Qingdao.
Like the home side, a lack of clean sheets has been an issue for Zhejiang in recent weeks. BTTS has landed in six of their last eight matches.
