Budapest Bound - PSG and Arsenal Set for Historic Champions League Final

The stage is set for a collision of footballing philosophies at the Puskás Aréna on May 30, 2026.

Following a week of high-octane semi-final drama, defending champions Paris Saint-Germain will look to retain their crown against an Arsenal side reaching their first final in two decades.

The Road to Budapest

Paris Saint-Germain - The Defending Champions’ Grit

PSG’s path to the final was impressive, specifically during a knockout stage that saw them dismantle Premier League and Bundesliga heavyweights.

Round of 16: The Parisians made short work of Chelsea, securing a dominant 8-2 aggregate victory (5-2 at home, 3-0 at Stamford Bridge) that signaled their intent to retain the trophy.

Quarter-Finals: In a rematch of the 2022 final, PSG shut down Liverpool with a masterclass in tactical discipline. They won both legs 2-0, keeping two clean sheets against one of Europe’s most feared attacks.

Semi-Finals: A legendary encounter with Bayern Munich. PSG won a wild first-leg thriller 5-4 at the Parc des Princes. Ousmane Dembélé’s early goal proved vital in the return leg as they held on for a 1-1 draw at the Allianz Arena, progressing 6-5 on aggregate.

Arsenal - Breaking the 20-Year Curse

Mikel Arteta’s side made history by becoming the first team to reach a Champions League final after playing 14 matches without defeat.

League Phase: Arsenal made a statement by becoming the first team in history to win all eight matches in the newly formatted league phase, including a 3-1 victory over Inter Milan.

Round of 16 & Quarters: The Gunners eased past Bayer Leverkusen (3-1 agg) before squeezing past Sporting CP in a cagey quarter-final that ended 1-0 on aggregate thanks to a late Kai Havertz winner in Lisbon.

Semi-Finals: Facing Atlético Madrid, Arsenal played out a controversial 1-1 draw in Spain. Bukayo Saka pounced on a rebound in the 44th minute to secure a 1-0 second leg win in London, sending the Emirates into euphoria and Arsenal into their first final in 20 years.

Head-to-Head

Paris Saint-Germain failed to win in their first five encounters against Arsenal before breaking through in the Champions League semi-finals last season.

2025/26 Champions League Final Betting Odds

The market is leaning toward the French champions, PSG's experience in high-pressure finals and the clinical nature of their attack making them the logical favorites.

Arsenal's defensive record is formidable, but the Parisians thrashed Inter in the final last year which gives them a psycholgical edge.
