The Jets snapped a four-game winless run against Wellington when they prevailed 3-1 back in Round 8, with Eli Adams, Lachie Rose and Clayton Taylor scoring in a seven-minute 2nd half blitz.
Newcastle Jets Fly Up The Ladder
It's been a superb start to life as Jets manager for Mark Milligan - he steered the club to their first piece of silverware since 2008 when they won the Australia Cup in preseason and now Newcastle have shot up the ladder into third position, registering a 7-0-6 record after 13 rounds.
Newcastle are the only side in the A-League not to have drawn this season - they either win or lose and they do it on their own terms, scoring and conceding the most goals in the competition.
The Jets have been on fire over the last month or so, coming into this clash having won five of their last six games - including taking out ladder leaders Auckland and reigning champions Melbourne City, along with a 2-0 dispatch of Sydney FC.
It was another brilliant performance last week, with the Jets toppling the Wanderers 2-1 at CommBank. Eli Adams scored another thunderbolt free-kick, while Irish centre back Joe Shaughnessy also got on the scoresheet.
Wellington Phoenix In Season Best Form
Phoenix are playing their best football of the season at the moment and are just two points outside of the top six, compiling a 5-3-5 record heading into Round 14.
It was a slow start to the season for the Nix, but they're making up for lost time, winning three of their last five games.
Wellington have kept clean sheets in two of those wins against top six opponents on the road, crushing Brisbane 3-0 before last week's 2-0 triumph over Sydney.
The Nix spoiled Sydney's return to Allianz, with Carlo Armiento and Isaac Hughes scoring either side of half-time.
