Mark Milligan brought instant success to the Jets, winning the Australia Cup in preseason before leading his young side to the minor premiership, with Newcastle celebrating with a 4-0 win over the Mariners at home on the final day of the regular campaign.
After earning a week off, the Jets returned to action last week and were solid on the road. Clayton Taylor set up the equaliser with a dazzling run down the left flank before squaring perfectly inside for Eli Adams to fire home the equaliser.
Sydney FC Form - Sky Blues Struggling For Wins
It was a bumpy road throughout the season and it got to a stage where Sydney weren't assured of finals football, which led to the departure of Ufuk Talay.
Patrick Kisnorbo took charge of the club and while he hasn't set the world on fire, he's steadied the ship as the Sky Blues have gone unbeaten in their last six games.
However, two wins from nine games isn't great form for Sydney - but technically, they don't need to win a game inside 90 minutes for the remainder of the season to be crowned premiers.
Sydney took the lead through on-loan striker Apostolos Stamatelopoulos in the 50th minute last week, but their advantage didn't last for long as Newcastle scored eight minutes later. Kisnorbo was buoyed by his side's display, despite failing to finish the job at home.
