PSG got the job done against Aston Villa and will want to make a statement in the French Super Cup.
Lens’ home record deserves acknowledgement here, but I expect the Parisians to control the contest and add another trophy to their collection.
HTH
PSG have won seven of their previous eight matches against Lens, leading the HTH 49-25 alongside 21 draws.
Hard Act to Follow for Lens
Lens are coming off a great season, finishing second in Ligue 1 and the only team to challenge PSG. They won 14 of their 17 matches at Stade Felix Bollaert-Delelis.
The northern club saw manager Pierre Sage join Crystal Palace with Dino Toppmöller joining from Eintracht Frankfurt.
The ‘Blood and Gold’ had some promising preseason performances, beating Crystal Palace and Villarreal. They failed to score against Famalicao and Sunderland.
More Trophies for PSG
Paris Saint-Germain’s dominance continued last season, claiming their fifth consecutive Ligue 1 title. Luis Enrique’s side won back-to-back Champions League titles, defeating Arsenal in the final.
The Parisians had a minimal preseason with many of their players needing a rest after the World Cup.
PSG got back to competitive action in the UEFA Super Cup, beating Aston Villa 2-1 in Salzburg. Désiré Doué assisted Khvicha Kvaratskhelia before restoring the lead in the second half, ending the contest with 61% possession and 6-4 shots on target.
Enrique praised his team after the victory: "It was a difficult match to prepare for. The players needed a rest and some time with their families but every time they pull on the Paris Saint-Germain shirt, there’s that connection with the fans, and amongst the players themselves.
"What we showed again today is that, despite mistakes and a lot of things missing, we’re the team we’ve always been."
Team News
Lens centre-backs Samson Baidoo, Nidal Celik and Jonathan Gradit are all out alongside left-back Jhoanner Chávez.
Midfield duo Adrien Thomasson and Mamadou Sangaré left the club with Michaël Cuisance, Yacine Titraoui and Mezian Masloub brought in.
Franjo Ivanovic was signed on loan from Benfica and could be an options off the bench.
Luis Enrique might be forced into a change here, Lucas Hernández replacing Nuno Mendes late on against Aston Villa and in contention to start. Ousmane Dembélé is a chance to replace Maghnes Akliouche up front.
Bradley Barcola has been linked with a move to the Premier League and Ibrahim Mbaye is reportedly speaking with Liverpool. Expect both players to miss out as a result.
