Gwangju FC vs Pohang Steelers Predictions

Pohang Steelers look well placed to claim victory when they make the trip to Gwangju on Saturday.

The visitors have a strong away record while Gwangju have continued to endure a miserable campaign.

Pohang Steelers to win is my preferred pick at Gwangju Football Stadium.

Pohang Backed in Gwangju

  • Gwangju lost 10 of their last 12 matches
  • Pohang Steelers won 5 of their last 7 matches against Gwangju
  • Pohang Steelers won 3 of their last 4 away matches

Pohang Hold H2H Advantage

Gwangju FC and Pohang Steelers have met on 18 occasions since 2020. Pohang won 11 of those games while Gwangju secured only four victories.

Pohang picked up a 3-2 win on their last visit to Gwangju last season.

Gwangju Remain Winless Since March

Gwangju FC return to home soil after picking up a creditable 1-1 draw against KL1 title-challengers Ulsan last week. Min-seo Moon’s second-half goal rescued a point for the out-of-form home side.

Jeong-Gyu Lee’s men were somewhat fortunate to come away with a point. The Griffin were outshot 26-7 and finished with a significantly lower xG total of 0.42 compared to Ulsan’s 1.97.

Despite last weekend’s draw, Gwangju remain bottom of the KL1, with just eight points picked up from 16 games completed.

A dismal home record remains the biggest issue for Lee’s side. GFC lost four and won just one of eight KL1 games at Gwangju Football Stadium this season.

Pohang Steelers Impress on the Road

Pohang Steelers make the trip to Gwangju after a dramatic 3-2 win against FC Anyang last weekend. Despite being reduced to ten men, second-half goals from Lee Ho-jae and Wanderson secured an excellent away victory.

Both teams had their moments in an evenly balanced contest. Tae-Ha Park’s side finished the contest with one more shot (10-9) and a slightly higher xG (1.15 - 0.99).

The Steelers have an excellent away record, picking up victories in three of their last four road trips. Over a longer period, Pohang have lost just two of nine previous matches on their travels.

Placed fifth in the KL1 standings, Pohang now sit just one point behind fourth-placed Jeonbuk,

Gwangju FC vs Pohang Steelers Team News

Gwangju FC: (4-2-3-1) Kyeong-Min Kim; Seong-Yun Kwon, Sang-Ki Min, Young-Kyu Ahn, Seung-Un Ha; Se-Jong Joo, Yong-Jun Hong; Je-Ho Yu, Min-Seo Moon, Ji-Hoon Jeong; Aron Fridjonsson

Jeong-Gyu Lee is likely to retain confidence in the same side that picked up a point against Ulsan.

Icelandic forward Aron Fridjonsson will continue to lead the Gwangju attack.

Pohang Steelers: (4-4-2) In-Jae Hwang; Yong-hak Kim, Min-Kwang Jeon, Hyeon-Seo Han, Jeong-Won Eo; Juninho Rocha, Kento Nishiya, Dong-Jin Kim, Wanderson; Ho-Jae Lee, Jakob Tranziska

Head coach Park will be forced into at least one change to his first XI. Kwang-hun Shin is suspended after being sent off against Anyang.

Yong-hak Kim is tipped to come into the Pohang defence.
