Gor Mahia vs Al Hilal Omdurman CECAFA Kagame Cup Preview

A place in the final of the CECAFA Kagame Cup is up for grabs as Kenya’s Gor Mahia and Al Hilal Omdurman of Sudan square off in a semi-final clash on Tuesday.

Both teams had similar records in the group stage, but the Sudanese side have played with a bit more confidence lately and should have the upper hand.

Key Stats

  • Al Hilal Omdurman are unbeaten in eight of their last 10 matches in all competitions.
  • Al Hilal Omdurman have won two of their last three matches in all competitions.
  • Gor Mahia have failed to win three of their last five matches in all competitions.

One Previous Meeting

The only previous meeting between Gor Mahia and Al Hilal Omdurman came during the 2024 Kagame Cup. The Sudanese side eased to a 2-0 victory in the final group stage fixture.

Gor Mahia Scraped Through

Gor Mahia wrapped up their group stage campaign with a 1-0 victory over CF GR/SIAF. Paul Okoth struck the only goal early in the first half, and they were able to hold on despite a red card to Alpha Onyango.

That was a solid return to winning ways for Gor Mahia, who had suffered a 1-0 defeat to Vipers in their previous fixture. The result was also enough to see them finish top of Group A.

While Gor Mahia will be pleased to have progressed to the last four, they have not been overly convincing lately. The Kenyans have failed to win three of their last five matches in all competitions.

Slight Stumble for Al Hilal Omdurman

Al Hilal Omdurman suffered their first defeat of the competition as they lost 1-0 to Rayon Sport in their final group stage fixture. They fell behind early in the first half but could not find a way back into the contest.

Despite that defeat, Al Hilal Omdurman were able to qualify for the semi-final as the best second-placed team. They had won their previous two fixtures, including a 4-0 victory over KVZ.

The defeat to Rayon Sport will be considered a minor blip as Al Hilal Omdurman's overall form has been solid lately. They are Unbeaten in eight of their last 10 matches in all competitions.

Team News and Predicted Line-ups

Gor Mahia (4-3-3): Bryne Omondi; Daniel Sakari, Mike Kibwage, Frank Odhiambo, Bryton Onyona; Hansel Ochieng, Lawrence Juma, Enoch Machaka; Shariff Sabuni, Patrick Essombe, Paul Okoth.

Gor Mahia will be without midfielder Onyango, who is suspended after being sent off last time out. Ochieng is likely to be drafted in while Okoth and Essombe should continue in attack.

Al Hilal Omdurman (4-3-3): Farid Ouedraogo; Kamaradini Mamudu, Babe Diarra, Ousmane Diouf, Ernest Luzolo; Magemeno Petrus, Yagoub Taha, Haman Mandjan; Salim Adams, Ahmed M’Bareck, Sunday Adetunji.

Mamudu should feature in central defence once again for Al Hilal Omdurman alongside Diarra. Petrus is expected to start in the midfield while Adetunji should feature in attack, with M’Bareck and Adams providing support.
