Gangwon FC vs Gwangju FC Predictions

Gangwon FC welcome Gwangju FC to Gangneung High1 Arena in the K League 1 on Wednesday.

While neither side has been in good form, Gangwon should have the edge this week.

I have a stake on the hosts to claim victory and to keep a clean sheet.

Gangwon Backed to Claim KL1 Points

  • Gangwon won 3 of their last 4 home matches (KL1)
  • Gangwon won 6 of their last 7 matches against Gwangju
  • Gwangju lost 7 of their last 11 away matches (KL1)
  • Gwangju failed to score in 8 of their last 11 away matches (KL1)

Gangwon Hold H2H Advantage

Gangwon and Gwangju have met on 18 occasions since 2020. Gangwon won nine of those matches, while Gwangju claimed four victories. Five games finished as draws.

Gangwon have dominated more recent meetings, winning five of their six most recent fixtures. Gwangju failed to score in each of their five most recent matchups.

Gangwon Look to Recover

Gangwon return to home soil after a disappointing 3-0 defeat against Daejeon Hana Citizen last Sunday.

Min-woo Seo's first-half red card left the Bears facing an uphill battle, before three goals conceded in a miserable 20-minute spell after the interval ensured a dismal day out.

Gangwon have had a mixed season, winning nine but losing six of 23 KL1 fixtures. The hosts now sit fifth in the division, but only three points behind second-placed Jeonbuk.

Park Yo-Han’s side have picked up some decent results at Chuncheon Songam Sports Town this season. The hosts have won four and lost only two of their ten home fixtures.

More recently, Gangwon have claimed victories in three of their last four matches at this venue. All three of those wins finished 2-0.

The hosts should take further confidence from a strong recent record against Gwangju. Gangwon won six of their last seven encounters with clean sheets kept in five of those wins.

Gwangju Remain Bottom

Gwangju make the trip to Gangneung after another frustrating K League 1 home defeat against Incheon United on Sunday.

Lee Jung-hyo's side looked set to hang on for a goalless draw before Stefan Mugosa's penalty in the fifth minute of stoppage time secured a 1-0 victory for Incheon.

The KL1 strugglers have now failed to win any of their last 22 K League 1 matches since a 3-2 win against Incheon five months ago. GFC remain bottom of the division with just 11 points picked up from 24 games.

A lack of quality in the final third remains the biggest issue for the visitors. Gwangju scored just 12 goals this season. On the road, the Bears bagged only three goals in 11 away KL1 fixtures since March.

Gangwon FC vs Gwangju FC Team News

Gangwon FC: (4-4-2) Park Cheong-hyo; Hong Chul, Shin Min-ha, Kang Too-ji, Kang Joon-hyuk; Jesse, Seo Min-woo, Lee Gi-hyuk, Ko Young-jun; Kim Dae-won, Choi Byeong-chan

Head coach Park Yo-Han has a couple of selection issues this week. Lee Yu-hyeon is suspended while Kim Dong-hyeon faces a late fitness test.

Lee Gi-hyuk could return after being left out of the starting XI for Sunday's defeat at Daejeon.

Gwangju FC: (4-4-2) Kyeong-Min Kim; Seong-Yun Kwon, Teun van Grunsven, Young-Kyu Ahn, João Pedro; Chang-Moo Sin, Kyoung-Rok Choi, Yong-Jik Ri, Min-Seo Moon; Hólmbert Fridjónsson, John Iredale

Gwangju boss could be forced into at least one change to his selection on Wednesday. Teun van Grunsven could miss out after he was forced off in last weekend's defeat against Incheon.
