Denmark are strong in Copenhagen where they beat Portugal last year. Portugal are the stronger team on paper, but breaking down the Danes in their home stadium could prove problematic.

Key Stats

  • Denmark are unbeaten in 17 of their last 18 competitive home games
  • Denmark are unbeaten in 3 of their last 4 competitive home games against Portugal.
  • Portugal are unbeaten in 11 of their last 12 matches (Nations League).

Portugal have a 12-4 advantage against Denmark alongside two draws.

They last met in the 2025 Nations League quarter-finals, Portugal overcoming a 1-0 deficit to win the second leg 5-2 in extra time.

Denmark Bouncing Back

Denmark failed to qualify for the World Cup after a 4-2 defeat in Scotland on the final matchday. They lost a penalty shootout to the Czech Republic in the playoff final.

Brian Riemer’s side played two friendlies in June, beginning with a 0-0 draw against DR Congo. Christian Eriksen collapsed on the pitch against Ukraine which saw the game abandoned, and it appears he may never play again.

The Danes trailed Norway 2-0 in the Nations League before goals to Mikkel Damsgaard and Rasmus Hojlund squared it up. They were unable to stop Erling Haaland, going down 3-2 in a close clash.

Denmark returned to Copenhagen where they were too good for Wales. Gustav Isaksen scored after an own goal to secure a 2-0 victory, ending the contest with 20-10 shots and 1.39-0.62 xG.

Portugal Take Top Spot

Portugal were below their best at the World Cup, finishing second behind Colombia in the group stage. Gonçalo Ramos scored in added time to secure a 2-1 victory against Croatia in the first knockout round.

The Seleção exited the tournament out in the Round of 16 after a 1-0 defeat to Spain. They took the champions to added time but there were few complaints in Dallas.

Portugal began the Nations League with a 1-0 win against Wales. João Félix scored early but they had to hold on under pressure after Ronaldo wasted a fantastic opportunity to make it 2-0.

Félix scored first again in a 2-1 win in Norway where they had 38% possession, 12-22 shots and 1.04-2.52 xG. They were pegged back before Gonçalo Ramos restored the lead, Ronaldo an unused substitute.
