Brazil have hardly given Australia a chance in eight encounters and should be too strong again in Townsville.

Carlo Ancelotti will want his side to get this one done quickly in order to rest his stars which brings the handicap into play.

Key Stats

  • Australia haven't scored in 2 of their last 3 matches.
  • Australia have scored 1 goals in 8 matches against Brazil.
  • Brazil have won to nil in their last 3 matches against Australia.
  • Brazil have won 3 of their last 4 matches.

HTH

Brazil have conceded only once in eight matches against Australia, leading 6-1 alongside one draw. They last met in 2017, Brazil winning 4-0 in Melbourne.

Australia Still Rebuilding

Australia started the World Cup with a 2-0 victory against Turkey despite having 28% possession and 9-30 shots.

The Socceroos were too passive against the USA, down 2-0 at half-time which was the final score. They dominated Paraguay but both teams were content with a 0-0 draw to progress.

Tony Popovic’s side conceded early against Egypt but equalised after the break and had chances to take the lead.

The manager brought Mathew Ryan off the bench to participate in the penalty shootout but it backfired, Australia exiting the tournament.

Brazil Persist with Ancelotti

Brazil’s World Cup campaign began with a 1-1 draw against Morocco thanks to Vinícius Júnior’s equaliser. Júnior scored again in a comfortable 3-0 victory over Haiti.

The Real Madrid forward maintained his form against Scotland, bagging the opening two goals in another 3-0 win.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side showed left it late against Japan. Gabriel Martinelli’s 95th minute goal secured a deserved 2-1 victory after registering 69% possession and 19-5 shots.

Bruno Guimarães couldn’t convert an early penalty in the Round of 16 clash against Norway. It proved crucial after Erling Haaland scored twice, Neymar’s 99th minute penalty too little too late as the Seleção lost 2-1 and went out.
