England Dominant

England have won their last three ODIs against Sri Lanka, after losing the previous two ODIs against them.

England Cruised in Opening Match

Ben Duckett (32 off 29), Joe Root (44 off 52) and Harry Brook (67 off 69) got England off to a superb start on their way to a score of 265 off 48.1 overs. Jos Buttler (31 off 33) and Will Jacks (46* off 47) gave the innings a late boost.

Jamie Overton picked up two top six Sri Lanka wickets for 21 runs as Sri Lanka stumbled to 105/6. Will Jacks was England’s star bowler, knocking over half of the visitors’ batters for just 22 runs as Sri Lanka crumbled to 176 all out off 37 overs.

Sri Lanka Run Scoring remains a Problem

Sri Lanka’s struggles in the T20I series continued into the ODI series, although they did well to bowl England out for 265 off 48.1 overs. Asitha Fernando (3/53) got an early wicket and came back to wipe up the tail. Sachindu Colombage (3/44) knocked over three of England’s top seven batters in a strong bowling performance at just 4.40 runs per over.

Sri Lanka were well placed at 84/2 in the 20th over thanks to Pathum Nissanka (27 off 37) and Kusal Mendis (42 off 60) before collapsing for 176 off 37 overs. Dunith Wellalage hit out for 45 off 36 balls with a five fours and two sixes.

Team News & Predicted Lineups

Sri Lanka’s bowlers will be heartened coming into the must-win 2nd ODI after 3-fers for Asitha Fernando and Sachindu Colombage, but their struggles with the bat is England’s key to securing the series.

Sri Lanka (possible XI): Pathum Nissanka, Kamindu Mendis, Kusal Mendis (c), Pavan Rathnayake, Charith Asalanka, Janith Liyanage, Dunith Wellalage, Dushmantha Chameera, Sachindu Colombage, Asitha Fernando, Dilshan Madushanka.
