The Argentina national team could not resist taking a cheeky swipe at rap star Drake after he backed Canada to dump them out of the Copa America.

The Canadians rebounded from losing their opening game of the tournament by embarking on a sensational run to the semi-finals that culminated with a meeting with Lionel Messi & Co.

Drake, one of Canada’s biggest exports, got so swept up by that run that he placed a big-money bet on the Maple Leafs causing one of the biggest upsets in recent memory.

The 37-year-old Stake Ambassador bet $300,000 on Canada in the 1x2 market, at odds of 9.60, and stood to win $2,880,000 if Canada sent Argentina crashing out.

But, not for the first time, he saw a big-money sporting bet go south.

Argentina beat Canada 2-0 in the opening game of the tournament, and repeated that result in the semi-finals as goals from Julian Alvarez and Lionel Messi settled things.

That meant Drake had nothing to show for his $300,000 bet, and the Argentinians could not resist sending a little shot across the bow.

The “God’s Plan” rapper has been publicly feuding with fellow performer Kendrick Lamar, and the Argentinians entered the spat with a simple post on social media that quoted one of Lamar’s most popular songs, “Not Like Us”.
The tongue-in-cheek post will have poured more salt on the wound for Drake, who was already nursing some other big losing bets in recent weeks.

He had staked almost $1,000,000 on the Dallas Mavericks to win the NBA Finals and the Edmonton Oilers to win the NHL’s Stanley Cup, and both of those bets ended in failure too.

The Mavericks were comprehensively beaten 4-1 by the Boston Celtics in the final series of the NBA season, while the Oilers wasted a three-game fightback as they lost 4-3 to the Florida Panthers in the last series of the NHL season.
