Match Preview
Braunschweig were among the worst-performing teams in the previous BBL season and luckily avoided relegation. They are off to a fantastic start this year, though, while Vechta are the ones struggling.
Vechta Struggling After Difficult BBL Start
Even though they had a great start to the new season, winning four FIBA Champions League qualifying games to reach the main stage, Vechta are struggling in the BBL.
Their first domestic appearance was in late September, suffering a humiliating 108-67 defeat to Bamberg in front of the home crowd, while doing slightly better on their first trip to Frankfurt but still losing 93-81 against the Skyliners.
A mid-week clash against Jena brought no improvements, with Vechta registering a third straight loss, 79-71. Their shooting was disastrous here, landing just 24 of 66 FG attempts (36%). Justin Edler-Davis finished the match with 20 points, eight rebounds and two assists, but landed just 5 of 16 FG attempts.
Braunschweig Producing Plenty of Offense
Braunschweig's first appearance this season was in the German Cup, having no problems eliminating Bremerhaven in the Round of 32 as visitors, taking an 87-67 victory.
Their BBL opening clash against Trier was one of the most entertaining games played in years, with Braunschweig taking a 116-107 victory in front of the home crowd, where Devin Askew led the way with 25 points.
The winning streak was extended last weekend with a dramatic 83-82 home victory against Rostock, almost wasting a huge lead in the final quarter and winning mostly thanks to good free-throw execution (22/26).
