Vikos were founded in 2022 and have already found their way to the Basket League, earning back-to-back promotions. Their debut is going to be tough on Sunday, facing the number one candidate to lift the title, Panathinaikos.
Panathinaikos Making a Strong Start Under Obradovic
Panathinaikos are having a good start to the new season under legendary coach Zeljko Obradovic, winning three out of their four games across competitions.
All those victories were earned in the EuroLeague in front of the home crowd, outplaying Paris 91-72, ASVEL 102-70 and most recently Maccabi Tel Aviv 90-67. Summer signing Sylvain Francisco played a key role in these wins, averaging 16 points and almost four assists per game.
The only time PAO slipped so far was last weekend in the Greek Super Cup semifinals, losing to PAOK 84-82, where their former player Cedi Osman landed a three-pointer at the buzzer.
Vikos Preparing for Their Top-Flight Debut
Vikos earned promotion to the Greek Basket League last season, and of course their primary goal will be to keep their top-flight membership.
They earned 20 victories in 28 games in the regular season in the tier-two division, then eliminated Lavrio in quite dramatic fashion in the quarterfinals by winning the deciding Game 3 78-77 at home.
Vikos excelled in the Final Four tournament for promotion, beating Proteas Voulas 94-87 and Papagou 87-72 to earn promotion.
