Match Preview
With Andrea Trinchieri in charge and Cedi Osman on the floor, PAOK are expected to challenge Olympiakos and Panathinaikos in the Basket League this season. Will they justify the role of heavy favorites against Mykonos on Saturday?
Mykonos Reached QF Last Season
Mykonos had a decent run in the Greek Basket League last season, wrapping up the first phase in 7th place with a 9-15 record and advancing to the playoffs.
They stood no chance against Panathinaikos in the quarterfinals, registering two back-to-back defeats, 99-75 on the road and 90-76 in front of the home crowd, to wrap up the campaign.
Their results in recent friendlies were mixed, starting the pre-season with a 75-65 victory over AS Karditsas, but then losing two games in a row to Aris 80-64 and Iraklis 84-73.
PAOK Making a Strong Start Under Trinchieri
PAOK started the new season with a big upset against Panathinaikos in the Greek Super Cup semifinals, beating the Athens side 84-82 thanks to game-winning shots made by Cedi Osman, who scored 18 points and had six assists.
The Double-Headed Eagles couldn't take another scalp, though, losing 101-96 to Olympiakos in the final. Their shooting was at 52% here (14 out of 17 on two-pointers), with Marcus Forest being the top scorer with 18 points.
Their EuroCup campaign started successfully, cruising past Manresa 93-78 in Thessaloniki on Wednesday. Osman had another amazing performance here, finishing as the top scorer with 23 points, followed by Breein Tyree, who contributed 20.
