Match Preview
Virtus Bologna's spirits are high after taking down Olympiakos, but they were beaten in both head-to-head matches against Bayern last season. The latest odds are favoring the German side.
Bayern Looking to Recover From Recent Defeats
Bayern were tagged as big underdogs in the EuroLeague opening round against Hapoel Tel Aviv but claimed an 86-84 victory, with veteran Johannes Voigtmann landing a three-pointer with ten seconds left on the clock.
The Bavarians were nowhere close to upsetting Fenerbahce in Istanbul in the second match, though, losing convincingly 100-76, mainly due to awful three-point defending. Duane Washington had a great display here with 20 points.
Washington had a great match against Partizan last Friday as well (20 points), with Bayern leading the match for more than 35 minutes but still losing the encounter in dramatic fashion 86-84. Turnovers were a big problem for the German side here (17).
Virtus Bologna Took a Big Scalp Last Week
Virtus Bologna stood no chance in the first round in Istanbul, losing to Fenerbahce 78-68, while being edged out by fellow Italian side Milano 87-85 last Tuesday. Marcus Carr did great here with 10 points and 9 assists.
The odds were heavily against them last Thursday against Olympiakos, but they pulled off an upset and defeated the reigning champions narrowly 96-94. Carr was named man of the match with 22 points and 10 assists.
Virtus Bologna carried over their good form to Lega A as well, beating Maxima Roma 98-89 in quite an entertaining contest last weekend, even though they entered the final quarter with a three-point deficit. Carr was unstoppable once again with 21 points and 13 assists.
