This tournament is made up of eight teams, with six coming from Southeast Asia – Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines and Vietnam. Formerly, even teams from Taiwan and Brunei were included in the Asean Basketball League. This tournament was launched in 2009.

What is Asean Basketball League
The Asean Basketball League was first formed in 2009 and is going strong even after 13 years. The inaugural season saw six participating teams from Brunei, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand.
It was then expanded to include Vietnam from 2011. The 2019-20 Asean Basketball League was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic and had its own share of problems. Further attempts to restart the tournament in 2021 and 2022 didn’t come to life.
Finally in 2023, the Asean Basketball League was resumed. The current champion in the tournament is CLS Knights Indonesia, who won it in 2018-19. The most successful team in this competition is Hi-Tech Bangkok City with two titles.

The current teams participating in the Asean Basketball League are – Bangkok Tigers based out of Bangkok; Hong Kong Eastern based out Wan Chai; Louvre Indonesia based out of Surabaya; Macau Black Bears based out of Macau; NS Matrix based out of Negeri Sembian in Malaysia; Saigon Heat based out of Ho Chi Minh City; Singapore Slingers based out of Kallang; and Zamboanga Valientes based out of Zamboanga City in Philippines.
